On the 27th July 2005 the Helston School Jazz Orchestra wearily gathered in the school carpark at 5 o'clock in the morning, awaiting the arrival of a 'Truronian special' 57 seater coach. This was to be the start of the band's summer tour to Liguria in Northern Italy, half an hour from the French Border. After a well drilled loading of equipment, the band members and entourage said their farewells and climbed aboard.
After an uneventful drive (and an excellent breakfast!) the coach arrived at Gatwick. Some nerves were starting to set in as a few members of the group had never flown before. Luckily the flight to Turin was effortless and following another long coach trip through amazing countryside we arrived at our destination.
The 'Hotel Marligure' was an excellent venue with the bonus of being 50 yards from the mediterranean!
The owner, who had a familiar look and a withering countenance, was quickly nicknamed 'Cruella Deville' which stuck for the duration of the tour.
