The Helston School Jazz Orchestra (or HSJO as they are more commonly known) was formed in 1989 from students of Helston Community College and has gone from strength to strength each year.

The driving force behind the band is the world famous Mr John Austin who sources the music, rehearses the brass sections and conducts the band, although this does not do justice to the amount of hours he puts in.

HSJO is not a one man band though, they are fully supported by Isabell Austin, the school, the parents and of course the school music department led by Sara Munns.

The band has won many awards, played countless gigs, and been hugely successful, despite losing the oldest and best students each year.

In November 2005 the band were gold medal finalists at the Regional Concert Band Festival, qualifying them to go to the national finals in Glasgow in April 2006. Financial donations are always welcome!
